The Good Stuff, Day 7

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY 7: JANUARY 11, 2017

* I WENT TO MY VOICE LESSON
After probably a good month off (for various reasons on my part and the teachers), I finally got back. I got to choose new music, which I'm not thrilled about, but I think they will be good songs that will challenge me and force me to work on technique a little more.

* I HAD A NAP
I had a headache starting and hadn't slept well, so I was tired. As soon as Zach went down for his nap, I took one too. It was only possible because Eric was working from home so he could keep an eye on Jace. I woke up headache free.

* LOTS OF SNUGGLE TIME, AGAIN
Zach still isn't feeling well and just wanted to snuggle. I didn't complain too much. I would've snuggled with him while I took my nap, but he tosses and turns way too much!

* KEPT UP ON LAUNDRY
This is huge for me. When we first moved in, I had a great schedule for laundry. It was easy and I kept up on it easily. Eventually, life got in the way and it all went down the chute. Recently, I've been able to get back on track and I'm doing good keeping up.

* I GOT NATE TO PACK MEETING
Nate loves Scouts and I don't love Pack Meeting. About a half hour before Pack Meeting, I realized it was Pack Meeting and I remembered Nate talking about Scouts yesterday. So, even though I couldn't go (snuggly baby, couldn't go anywhere) I found a friend who was willing to take him with her boys. I'm so thankful for her and her friendship.

* HAD A FUN NIGHT WITH THE KIDS
After dinner, I just took some time to interact with a few of the kids. I watched Shaylyn play a memory game with Jace that he got for Christmas. I watched Zach playing for a bit (medicine does wonders), even being slightly naughty. Lex had me laughing with McNugget names he came up with for the family members. Some of which include: McCubNugget, McAwesomeNugget, McFunNugget, McPrettyNugget, McFartNugget and a couple others I don't want to mention. I got the choice of: McMomNugget, McOldNugget or McHairNugget.

* I MADE LUNCH
Usually when Eric is home, I let him figure out lunch. He likes to eat earlier than I do, so it just happens that way. Today, I figured it out and made it AND surprised Eric. It was simple, Grilled Cheese. But it was delicious!

The Good Stuff, Day 6

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY 6: JANUARY 10, 2017

* I DID SOME GROCERY SHOPPING

* I WENT ALONE
Thanks to awesome teenagers, who are willing to watch their siblings for a bit. I hate trying to go to the store with kids in tow.

* FROM THE TIME I LEFT THE HOUSE TO THE THE TIME I GOT BACK, I ONLY TOOK AN HOUR
I was in, out and on my way!

* I DIDN'T GET PULLED OVER
There were a few cops roaming the city at the same time as I was.

* STILL DOING GOOD GETTING THE FAMILY BLOG UPDATED

* I FOLDED ALL THE LOADS OF LAUNDRY THAT I DID

* LOTS OF SNUGGLE TIME WITH ZACH
Zach is feeling a little off, he doesn't seem to have much energy. So, all he wanted was to snuggle. I didn't complain too much.

The Good Stuff, Day 5

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY 5: JANUARY 9, 2017

If there's one thing I've learned from doing this, so far - it's that I don't do much. Hahaha! A lot of my life is lived at home taking care of little people. So here's what the 9th had in store for me.

* I PLAYED A NEW GAME
Even though it was Star Trek themed, I enjoyed it.

* WE PLAYED THE NEW GAME WITH NEW FRIENDS
Okay, so technically Eric's known the couple for awhile and I've known the husband for a little bit of time. I've met his wife two or three other times at different functions, but this was the first time we ever did something with just the four of us. They are pretty cool people.

* I GOT MORE BLOG ENTRIES DONE FOR THE FAMILY BLOG

* I STARTED THE BOOK CLUB BOOK FOR JANUARY, THE POETRY SELECTION
I don't remember The Raven being so long. But then again, I read it just before bed and I was pretty tired. But, I got more out of it than I ever have before.

* I FOLDED ALL THE LAUNDRY THAT NEEDED FOLDING

The Good Stuff, Day 4

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY 4: JANUARY 8, 2017

* We woke up late, but still went to church.
When you have church at 9 and you wake up at 8:15, chances are you'll just forego going to church for that day. But I've wanted to do better this year, so we still got ready and got there as soon as we could. We made it just in time for Primary and Sunday School. Guess I better start setting an alarm.
* I finished my book.
* I took a nap.
* I cleaned the kitchen.
* Shaylyn asked to play a singing game with me.

The Good Stuff, Day 3

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY 3: JANUARY 7, 2017

* I had the chance to go to lunch with my 2 bestest friends.
It had been a long time since we'd all been together, so it was awesome. And can I just say how great my husband is? In order for one of my friends to go, she needed someone to watch 3 of her boys. When I asked Eric if he was okay with that, he said yes. He also made sure he made their sandwiches and got them fed!
* We got free dessert!!!
And we didn't even have to complain.
* I had a yummy smoothie with lunch.
And I made sure I sent a picture to Shaylyn to 'brag' since she loves strawberries. She replied in Chinese 'curses'. I love that we can joke around like that.

* Shaylyn and I accidentally twinned.
I left the house while Shaylyn was getting ready and she got in the shower while I was getting ready, so we didn't see each other until I got home from a baby shower. We laughed about it and I love that she doesn't mind matching her mom. I got my outfit for my birthday and Santa brought one for Shaylyn.

* I almost finished my book.
* Eric stopped at the store on his way home from the game store and bought me a pair of ear phones.
It's something I've needed, but never remember to get for myself when I'm at the store. So the fact he remembered was so awesome.

The Good Stuff: Day 2

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY #2: JANUARY 6, 2017

It wasn't a busy day, nothing of major note happened - so finding things for today's good is a bit difficult.

* We had a quiet night at home.
* Eric stopped at the store on the way home without me asking him to do so.
* I got to read for a good portion of the night and got closer to finishing my book.
* Shaylyn and Lex straightened up the house when they were asked to do so, without complaint.
* I got a bit more work done for the family blog.

My Resolutions...Day 1, 5 Days Late

I am one of those people who don't make resolutions, because I know I won't keep them. Yet, for some reason this year I've been thinking on resolutions a bit.

Part of it has to do with Eric teaching a lesson in Elder's Quorum last week about resolutions. He had me read a story he shared and it basically is a lesson on making your resolutions small things, instead of these big giant goals. While figuring out an activity for Activity Days this past week, I was thinking about doing a lesson on goal keeping and found something about 'eating an elephant' by eating a small bit at a time. Basically, keep things small and you can accomplish big things. I didn't do a lesson on goal keeping, but it really stuck out.

So, this year I decided to keep my resolutions small and I only have a list of three...

#1. Exercise Daily
#2. Read The Book Selections For Book Club Each Month
#3. Blog About The Good In My Life Everyday

Here's a little more about the why's behind my resolutions.

#1. EXERCISE DAILY
I'm already ready to give up on this resolution and I haven't even started yet. HAHAHA!

I don't enjoy exercise, but I wish I did. It seems boring and takes too long to see any type of results. But, I know my health isn't great and I need to do things to feel better about me. The important part is to try. My first step is going to be Yoga every night. I figure that's simple enough and I don't seem to mind Yoga that much. It's nothing major, but it's a start...we'll see where to go from there.

It's also a little sad and a bit of a wake up call when your kid tells you that their friend called you fat a few times...

#2. READ THE BOOK SELECTIONS FOR BOOK CLUB EACH MONTH
We've had a book club in my neighborhood for I don't know how many years. I was reluctant to go when I was first invited because I don't read all the time. My sweet friend, Cindi kept inviting me and I finally decided to go. I quickly discovered that while books are discussed a little bit, it was really a time for us moms to have some time to talk to friends and vent. We stay up into the wee hours of the morning and it's been a safe haven for me.

I still have slight guilt when they bring up the books they've read and talk about it. And there's been a few book I wish I would've read. There's also been some books I actually did read and I was thankful to have read them. Most of them were books I wouldn't have picked out for myself, but I still enjoyed.

Sadly, Cindi is moving and she was part of the driving force behind book club. I was concerned it would all fall apart without Cindi, but there are a couple ladies who decided to keep it going and I'm thankful for that. The group will seem a little off without Cindi and her commentary, but hopefully she'll keep up on her blog. She reads like there's no tomorrow and shares reviews there.

This past Tuesday we met to vote on the books for the year. Every other month is a pick your own book in a certain genre. The other months were the ones we voted on. On Wednesday afternoon I ordered my book selection for January (A Poetry Book) AND the vote for February (Romance).

I'm off to a good start on that resolution. Now to finish the stack of books I have on my nightstand so I can get to Poe.

#3. BLOG ABOUT THE GOOD IN LIFE EVERYDAY
There's a few driving forces behind this resolution.

2016 was a rough year for me, as it was for many people. I can't even say that a bunch of bad things happened, it was just rough emotionally and I was told a number of times by my wonderful husband that I was focusing on the wrong things. He had a point. He had to point out things that were still going well. A LOT.

So as I was thinking of resolutions, a talk Elder Eyring gave a few years ago in General Conference kept coming to my mind. He talked about how every night he started keeping a list of the things the Lord had done for his family that day. He did it every night no matter how tired he was. I'll be honest, I won't be doing it at night - cause when I finally get the kids to bed, that's where I want to be. But mornings? I can do it in the morning about the day before.

Another thing that gave me this push was my cousin. She's technically my 2nd cousin and like 16 years younger than me, but whatever small portion of genetic makeup that we share is almost identical. (Not really, but read on...)

The other day she posted on her blog about how she had made a post about all the resolutions she was going to make and after she had posted she deleted it all because it wasn't authentic. She realized she didn't really need to change anything and she decided she was going to look for the good in every day. So, we were thinking on the same wavelength, she's just more quick to action than I am.

THE GOOD STUFF - DAY #1: JANUARY 5, 2017

* Eric made it home safely.
   Because he works downtown, I always worry about his safety in bad weather. Especially on days he gets home a little later than usual.
* Most of my kids played with friends.
* I actually cleaned the house AND got Christmas put away.
* I got a couple of blog posts up from March and April.
   I'm slowly getting the family blog caught up.
* Zach went to bed at 10:00.
   This is a good thing as he's usually a night owl and thinks midnight is a good bedtime.
* I was able to read a chapter in my current book.
   My new books should arrive within the next few days, so I've got to get busy!
